New Design Trends: What's In? What's Out?

According to Brie Dyas, at HouseBeautiful Magazine, top interior designers say that there are design trends that are out. A Business Insider, Talia Lakritz, tells us what's In.

TOP 3 OUT:

1. Strictly Antique or one style

2. Oversized Furniture

3. Brushed Metal (stainless steel)

TOP 3 IN:

1. Sophisticated Pastels

2. Rounded Furniture

3. Black Finished Metals/Matte

"While it's great to have a period as your starting off point, you don't have to adhere to it exclusively. It's more aesthetically intriguing to create a look that cohesively mixes of elements from the past and the future," says Warren Sheets Design.

Mixing different periods, A.K.A style, is a great way to have a creative new living space. It allows the usage of textures, colors, and finishes. It creates depth, interest, and perspective.

Try using darker wall colors, lighter fabrics, jewel tones, and sophisticated pastel colors, such as blush pink to start keeping up with new trends.

Instead of using over sized furniture, use more rounded furniture. This helps eliminate the appearance of a space looking too square. According to Caitlin Murray, founder and CEO of Black Lacquer Design, "the furniture is a lot more substantial and rounded off where it was feeling very square". Doing so will give a softer feel with more open space. Allowing more decor and accent pieces to complete the space.

Brushed Metals, such as, stainless steel, has went out of style. Black Metals and Matte appliances are the alternative new style. Metals such as gold and bronze are the new hardware for kitchens, bathrooms,and furniture.

A few other new design trends that are popular today are cerused wood, marble tops, and natural textures.
