Ancient Famous Rose Types

Famous rose types are old historic roses and other rose classics.

There are lots of different kinds of famous roses.

There are Bourbon, Hybird Perpetuals, and Gallica Roses.

One of the best Bourbon Roses are the 'Souenir de la Malmaison' (1843). A Hybird Perpetuals famous rose is the A Reine des Violettes (1860). One type of of the Gallica Rose is the Tuscany Superb(1848).

The Bourbon rose was known for their repeating bloom and wonderful smell. One of the first Bourbon roses appeared in 1835. To this day Bourbon roses are still around. The 'Souenir de la Malmaison' is the most famous of the Bourbon roses and it is also known as the 'Queen of Beauty and Fragrance'. Its bushes grows to be almost 3 feet tall and the rose produces large, flat, quartered blossoms with petals of pale skin colored pink and a wonderful fragrance. Bourbon roses were popular around the years 1830 to 1850.

Hybird Perpetuals has big cabbage head blossoms at the top and on the bottom they have a long arching cane. Hybird Perpetuals were in rose competitions, during the Victorian and Edwardian times. One of the more popular Hybird Perpetuals roses is the Reine des Violettes. It grows to be five to six feet tall. They were first introduced in the 1860's. They are known as the "Queen of Violets". It is the most purpliest rose known to be found. It is a truely unique rose that has a strong fragrance. There used to be thousands of Hybird Perpetuals around in the 1800's, but now they only have a few hundred left that still bloom each year.

Another famous rose type is the Gallica Rose. It is a French rose. It wildly grows from southern and central Europe and the Caucasua. One type of Gallica rose is the Tuscany Superb Rose. It has the nickname of "Mad Gallicas". They call it that becuase of its wild and intense colors. It is the richest maroon and darkens as it gets older to a dark purple with blackish shiny highlights. This type can grow up to 4 feet tall. Gallica roses were popular among the 18th and the mid 19th century. They only bloom in the spring and early summer. Gallica roses are the most 'romantic' of all the roses. The French aristocracy enhanced the Gallica's romantic appearance. Marie-Antoinette, in 1770, made a bed of 'Officinalis'. 'Officinalis' was thought to be the 1st recognizable Gallica rose. Empress Josephine loved the 'Officinalis' so much that she made her rose gardens, at Maimaison, into a virtual shrine to the Gallica rose.

All in all, the Bourbon, Hybird Perpetuals, and Gallica roses are all well known throughout history and some still remain today. They are all unique and have their own individual story. Some are pink, puprple, or even maroon. Some are big and some are small. Others have a stronger scent than all the others, but they are all old and classic roses that are still famous today. They are loved by many ancient people and all have their own history behind each and every type.
