How to Organize a Messy Closet

Spring Time is here and it's time to get those past due house duties complete. Organizing your closet can relieve stress and keep you up to date with clothing, shoes, purses, and anything you use on an everyday basis. This will help you get started and finish your organizing needs for your spring time cleaning checklist.

You are staring directly into your closet and start to think, my closet is a mess, what am I going to do? You can organize your closet in FOUR EASY STEPS. The FIRST step is to go through all your belongings. The SECOND step is to seperate your belongings into three categories: trash, give away, and keep. The THIRD step is to organize the trash, give away, and keep piles, The FOURTH step is to put belongings back into proper places. These are the steps to organizing a messy closet.

You will need to start with step one. When going through all your stuff, you need to make some decisions. When you go through your clothes, you need to figure out if the clothes still fit you. Also, you need to know if the clothes are still in style. If they do not fit you any more than you know they will go in the give away pile. If they are out dated and no longer in style, then you know you can throw them away. Shoes, purses, hats, ties, accessories, and etc. all go by the same rules. After you have went through all your belongings you can start on step number two.

Step two states to seperate all your belongings into three categories: trash, give away, and keep. Everything that is old, out dated, or very used looking needs to be put in the trash pile. Anything that may be still new or up to date, but just doesn't fit anymore can be put into the give away pile. If you have things that you simply don't wear or keep staring at and saying you're going to wear them one day, you more than likely will not. If you haven't wore it by now or have been keeping it for a year or two, you should give it away. You need to put your belongings into good use. You can always go out and buy something else that you will actually wear now. The things that you keep, should be the items you wear on a daily basis. You should also keep things for certain weather conditions, but only keep the things you will absolutely need to wear for when the time comes. Make sure to put your keep items away from the rest, so you will know what goes back into your closet. Also, so they don't get mixed up with the rest of your trash and give away piles. Now that you have seperated everything you can start on step three.

When starting on step three you will be organzing your three piles. You need to gather your items from the trash pile and go throw them all away. You can put them into the garabage can and out to the street. You now have more space to move around and things will start to look a little more clearly. You are now finished with the first part of step three. You can move onto the give away pile. You need to put all belongings into bags or boxes, which ever you have, and fill them up with all the things you are going to give away. You can give your items to a friend or close family member. One of your friends might even know someone that will take the items you wish to donate and give away to someone in need. If you don't know someone to give your items to, you can always donate them to a local thrift store or charity. They accept anything, at any time, day or night. You can drop off the items inside the store during the day. If it's late at night when they are closed, you can drop them off in the drop off location or at the front door and they will pick it up in the morning. Sometimes you can find local dumpsters for charity that help families in need. They are usually located on corner of streets located in shopping areas or parking lots. If you decide to give your items to a family or friend, you can place that bags/boxes in a corner somewhere and have them pick it up as soon as possible or you can even bring it to them. Now that you have finished organizing the trash and give away piles, it is time to organize the keep pile.

You are now working on your keep pile items. The first thing you want to start with are your clothes. You need a clear area in your room, usually the bed and floors work well. You will need to lay out the shirts, dresses, jackets, etc. in one pile to get ready for putting them on a hanger. You will also have to fold and have any jeans, pants, or skirts prepared in one pile to put on hangers. You will need to find all the matching shoes and put them together to get ready to be put back into your closet. You will have to lay out all of your scarfs, ties, belts, and etc. You will want to get them ready for a spot in your closet. Also, you will want to make sure they are in separate individual piles or stacks, so it wil help keep them organized. Once, you have all of your keep items into separate piles and ready to go, you can start with the last step. You now need to put all your belongings back into your clean closet and into their proper places. You will need to put all your clothes onto hangers and hang them up in your closet. You will want to categorize your clothes. You will put your pants, short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, jackets, dresses, etc into groups. Hang them together so, it will be easy to find certain items and it will make your closet look very organized, neat, and clean. If you have a lot of shoes I suggest you go out and purchase a shoe rack that holds enough shoes that properly fits into your closet. If you have shoes that doesn't fit on the shoe organizer, then just place them neatly on the ground into pairs. That way you can see and find your shoes without stressing out on "where is my other shoe?". If you purchase two shoe racks, just make sure it doens't take up too much space. You will want to have extra space for additional belongings. There are many types of shoe organizers, just pick the one that will work best in your closet. You can hand your belts on hangers, put the buckle through the hook on the hanger and have the belt hang down from the hook. You can do the same thing with ties, scarfs, hats, and anything that can be hung from the hook of the hanger. If you do not have enough room to hang these items, you will need to purchase a hat, tie, or scarf organizer from your local home department stores. I would also suggest to buy plastic clear containers with lids to stick other materials into or things that do not have a specific place to go. You can stick misc. items into the plastic containers and put them on shelves in your closet. That way everything is nicely put together and you can see what's inside the containers for future reference. After everything is hung back up and put back into it proper space you should be finished and can now relax and enjoy the rest of your day. Your closet is now clean and organized.

So, don't panic when it comes to cleaning out your closet. There are solutions to solve every problem. Do not over stuff your closet with too many belongings or it will appear to be messy and unorganized. Make sure everything is nice and neat, so you will be able to find anything you need out of your closet. If you do what I have given you instructions on how to organize a messy closet, you will have a nice clean organized closet space. You will be able to find the items you have been searching for and you will have a lot more space to add more to your closet. This will all lead to a functional closet space.
